Happy Independence Day

Originally posted 7-4-11.

Everywhere I look, there are ideas to help you celebrate the 4th of July.  Decorations, recipes, booze and fireworks.  (By the way, don't use the last two together...)  But how many of us celebrate this holiday and really reflect on the enormity of its significance?

We live in the richest and most blessed nation in the world.  There is no other county like the United States of America.  The bravest, most intelligent, honorable and creative people in the world live on our soil.  Our country is unique, exceptional and admirable.  I am proud to be an American.

I know I have been guilty of taking for granted all the privileges we enjoy as Americans.  We must be careful that we do not freely give away the rights and privileges that carried such a high price. Thousands of brave souls have given their lives for us to enjoy our way of life and others have given of their time and talent to ensure America retains the vision of our Founding Fathers.  America was not created in the image of any other country nor should we aspire that now.  It was meant to be unique and extraordinary.  And for that, my family and I are so grateful.

Please take some time to reflect on and pray for our Country.  Regardless of what some may say, American is still "One Nation Under God".  More than anything, we must not let that change.
Prayer For Our Nation ~ Rev. Billy Graham
‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask  your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.   We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil  good,’ but that is exactly what we have done.  We have  lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We  have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have  rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our  unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and  called it justifiable..  We have neglected to  discipline our children and called it building self esteem.   We have abused power and called it politics. We have  coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.   We have polluted the air with profanity and  pornography and called it freedom of expression.  We  have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers  and called it enlightenment.  Search us, Oh God, and  know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us  free.  Amen!’
