Christmas: Jesse Tree

Okay, we aren't even to Thanksgiving and I'm beginning to feel it.  Do you know what I mean?  The marketing push... the secularism... the gaudy, blinking, flashy decorations.

Are you looking for ways to make your Christmas more meaningful and more Christ-oriented?  Yes... our family, too.

Last year, I found a wonderful idea for a Jesse Tree.  It is similar to an advent calendar in that you place a single ornament on a tree branch every day.  But what really caught my attention was that every ornament is a symbol for a person who was Jesus' ancestor.  In addition, there is a daily scripture reading that goes along with the ornament and in some versions, a devotion as well.  So from Creation through the birth of Jesus, you get a wonderful reminder of the story from man's fall into sin to God's precious gift, His Only Son.  Jesus died to pay the price for our sins.  That gift comes by simply believing... no strings attached.

You can choose to make or buy your decorations, or there are links below so you can print them off, cut them out and you are set.

Typically, you would start your Jesse Tree on the first Sunday in Advent.  This year, that falls on Dec. 2.

Below are links to some that I have found so if you choose to do a Jesse Tree for your family, here's how you can get started.
