Buttermilk Syrup

When doing my research several months ago about culturing my own buttermilk, I ran across this interesting recipe from allrecipes.com.  Buttermilk syrup is very much like caramel sauce.  I've heard people use in on pancakes or waffles, although I think it is fabulous on vanilla ice cream.  Yum...

Ingredients

  • 1 C turbanado or white sugar
  • 3/4 C buttermilk
  • 1/2 C butter
  • 1 T arrowroot
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 2 t vanilla extract

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, stir together the turbanado, buttermilk, butter, arrowroot, and baking soda. Bring to a boil, and cook for 7 minutes. Remove from the heat, and stir in the vanilla.
